Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Aim of course
This 10 week blended learning course aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills of those working with students on the autism spectrum.
Course features
The course has four main elements:
- Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Assessment for Learning
- Interventions
- Case Studies
Participants gain an understanding of:
- the nature and incidence of autism spectrum disorder
- the behaviours which may be observed in learners on the autism spectrum
- the range of assessment strategies to identify the strengths and needs of individual learners
- the importance of creating autism friendly environments for supporting learners on the autism spectrum
- a range of teaching strategies to support learning across the curriculum and to maintain a positive learning environment
The course provides self-paced interactive online learning supported by a tutor. Key features include:
- social learning in groups of up to 12 participants using online forums and 3 face-to-face sessions
- practical resources and tools for the classroom
- goal setting and intervention planning for student/s you work with
- 20 hours of professional learning spread across 10 weeks
Facilitator: A trained Inclusion Online Tutor
Additional Information:
- You will be notified of your online tutor and cohort details via email after the registration period closes.
- Please note that the course will begin at the first face to face session, which will be scheduled early in Term 3 by your online tutor. The session will either take place in a venue central to the participants in your cohort or via virtual conferencing (e.g. Polycom or Adobe Connect).
